Soaring skyward like a giant golden diamond, MerginGold gleams with countless facets and a mesmerizing brilliance that is ever-changing. This grand gem-like art glass sculpture is unlike any other and began as an immense piece of flawless optical glass from an English industrial glass factory. Artist Michael Bokrosh transformed the pristine yellow glass much like a traditional sculptor—except instead of chisels and rasps, he used diamond saws and diamond wheels.
Each single facet took days to perfect and was meticulously crafted by hand in a laborious, painstakingly precise process—and there are hundreds of the perfect planes. Having taken over a year to complete, the massive six-foot, 1200-pound piece rests majestically on a basalt base with wheels hidden underneath.
The result is otherworldly. Gazing at the deep gold sculpture is like looking into a kaleidoscope jewel, and when the light touches it, it erupts in rainbows like a fantastical prism.
